Traceroute exercise
I first tried amazon.com and amazon.in because I was curious to see if there would be a difference in the traceroute results for 2 different countries.
I only got the IP addresses for the first few hops and the rest were always stars for all my traceroute exercises.
When comparing the traceroute results from different locations, I realized that only the last part of the IP address changed and the route (cities) mostly remained the same. In some cases, the number of hops varied.
I tried looking into why this happens and found that it might vary because I'm connecting to different ISPs from the floor and home.
For amazon.in, it went through Jersey and London in addition to New York
Another thing I noticed in all the traceroute results was that the first one always returned bogon/null for me. I wonder why that is?
I was able to reach Spotify from both the floor and my home
I was able to reach google from the floor. I'm not sure if it did from my home but the query stopped in 10 hops. I ran traceroute again for google drive from home to check again and found that some parts of the path remained the same and IP addresses changed.
Traceroute results for the ITP printer. I was curios to see what the path would be like to connect to a device inside the same physical space. Interestingly, the path from my home and the floor seemed to be similar.
